A mismatch between personality type and the current situation creates stress. This is another way of saying, that the individual, cannot cope with current inputs, because of their fundamental organisation. (personality)
A good starting point is an article by Korte SM 2005 "The Darwinian concept of stress:..."
The two types of personality considered, were "Hawks and Doves".
1. Hawks preferentiall use fight-flight strategies for their behaviour (engaging action response)
2. Doves use a freeze-hide strategy (passive action response)
The two personality types, have a correspondence to adaption, success and disease.
When the personalty fails, different disease patterns, might emmerge. The authors argue, a possible situation as below.
HAWKS | DOVES |
Prone to violence | Anxiety Disorders |
Impulse control disorders | Metabolic Syndromes |
Hypertension | Melancholic Depression |
Cardiac Arrhythmias | Psychotic States |
Sudden Death | Infection |
Atypical Depression | |
Chronic Fatique States | |
Inflammation |
